Аннотация: TiO2/C nanocomposites have been synthesized by developing a facile route based on the annealing of titanium glycerolate in inert atmosphere at 250–850 °C. X-ray diffraction studies reveal that the annealing temperature determines the crystal structure of the TiO2 phase in the compounds, which can be amorphous, anatase, and rutile. In contrast, the nanosized rod-like morphology which to a certain extent is predefined by the titanium glycerolate precursor does not depend on the annealing temperature. The carbon content of the TiO2/C composites amounts to 16–29 wt% and shows up, e.g., in the characteristic Raman D and G bands. Anatase-structured TiO2/C, which is obtained at 600 °C, exhibits the best electrochemical performance among the studied materials. Without the addition of carbon black, it reaches an initial specific discharge capacity of 378 mA h g−1 at 100 mA g−1 and exhibits excellent rate capability with a capacity of 186 mA h g−1 at 1000 mA g−1.

Аннотация: Thiocarbamoyl chitosan (TCC) was synthesized by grafting thiourea on chitosan backbone in eutectic composition of ammonium thiocyanate—thiourea. Insoluble products with the amno group functionalization degree of 0.3–1.1 can be prepared by varying the conditions of polymer-analogous (synthesis in a gel) transformation. Structure of the synthesized chitosan derivatives was characterized by elemental analysis, diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy, and the solid state 13C NMR. Study of sorption properties of TCC shows high sorption capacity and selectivity for the ions of gold(III), platinum(IV), and palladium(II) as evidenced by results obtained at pH 2 in the presence of 100–1000-fold excess of iron(III), copper(II), zinc(II), and nickel(II). Аннотация: Here we report on the method of synthesis in gel of a new heterocyclic aminopolymer-N-2-(4-pyridyl)ethylchitosan (4-PEC) via direct addition of 4-vinylpyridine to chitosan that yields a derivative with the substitution degree (DS) up to 0.8. The comparison of reactivity, thermal, spectroscopic, and sorption properties of a new derivative and its isomer N-2-(2-pyridyl)ethylchitosan (2-PEC) is presented. 2-PEC has higher sorption capacity and forms more stable chelates with [PdCl4]2- and [PtCl6]2- ions than 4-PEC, but the latter shows higher selectivity to noble metals ions in the presence of Cl- ions. A gradual increase of the sorption capacities and the affinity coefficient for Cu2+ and Ni2+ in the row chitosan4-PEC2-PEC was related to the increase of electron donor nitrogen atoms content and chelating properties of 2-PEC. A nearly negligible increase of the 4-PEC sorption capacity for Ag+, as compared to plain chitosan, was suggested to be dependent on the difference in complexation models for 2-PEC and 4-PEC derivatives. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations have shown that the "pendant" model of the complex with Ag(I) is energetically favorable only for 2-PEC derivative, while in cases of chitosan and 4-PEC only "bridge" complexes can be formed that results in lower sorption capacity

Аннотация: This study presents a simple and effective synthesis method of N-(2-sulfoethyl)chitosan (NSE-chitosan) via a reaction between sodium 2-bromoethanesulfonate and chitosan that allows polymer transformation without using additional reagents and organic solvents. The chemical structure of the obtained NSE-chitosan was characterized by FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopies. Thermogravimetric study of NSE-chitosan coupled with FT-IR analysis has shown stability of the polymer up to 200 °C, which almost does not change with the increase of degree of substitution (DS). The sorption of transition and alkaline earth metal ions from multicomponent solutions on NSE-chitosan was investigated. The synthesized sorbents showed the selective recovery of silver(I) and copper(II) ions from ammonium acetate buffer solution. The increase of DS enhanced the selectivity to silver(I) ions sorption in comparison with copper(II) ions. Selectivity coefficients KAg/Cu increase from 1.3 to 10.9 with DS increasing up to 0.7 (ammonium acetate buffer solution, pH 6.5). Sorption isotherms of transition metal ions on NSE-chitosan with DS = 0.5 have been fitted using Langmuir, Freundlich, and Redlich-Peterson models. The maximum sorption capacities of sorbent in ammonium acetate buffer solution at pH 6.0 were 1.72 mmol/g for Cu(II), 1.23 mmol/g for Ag(I) and below 0.5 mmol/g for Co(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), Mn(II) and Ni(II) ions

Аннотация: A procedure was developed for preparing a heterocycle-containing chelating amino polymer, N-(5-methylimidazol-4-ylmethyl) chitosan, by polymer-analogous transformations of chitosan in reaction with 4-chloromethyl-5-methylimidazole. The procedure allows synthesis of the polymer with the degree of substitution of up to 0.8, with simultaneous formation of the cross-linked structure. The structure of the polymers prepared was proved by IR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The ability of N-(5-methylimidazol-4-ylmethyl) chitosan with the degree of substitution of 0.54 to sorb Cu2+ and Ni2+ ions was evaluated. According to the sorption isotherms, the sorption capacity of this derivative exceeds that of the unmodifi ed polymer by a factor of 5.

Аннотация: New organic-inorganic materials based on products of interaction between sodium aminoprusside and polymer ligand (chitosan) have been synthesized. The composition of the obtained materials was characterized using the element analysis and X-ray diffraction; the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and Thermogravimetric analysis data were used to propose the structure of the formed complexes. It was established that ion and ligand exchange were the main reactions at interaction of sodium aminoprusside with water-soluble chitosan salts. The comparative estimation of the sorption capacity with respect to cesium ions was performed for the synthesized complexes. It has been shown that the complex of chitosan with pentacyanoferrate(II) in the form of cobalt(II) salt has higher distribution coefficient with respect to Cs+ ions, as compared to cobalt aminoprusside. The maximum sorption capacity value for Cs+ was evaluated from the sorption isotherm and found to be equal to 0.3 mmol/g

Аннотация: A series of new hybrid organo-inorganic sorbents with the 3-aminopropionate chelating group was synthesized. The synthesis includes the copolycondensation (sol—gel method) of tetraethoxysilane, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, and several modifiers (MeSi(OEt)3, EtSi(OEt)3, Ti(OEt)4, AlONO3, ZrOCl2) followed by carboxyethylation with acrylic acid. The obtained chelating sorbents were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetry. The N-carboxylated sorbents have a higher sorption capacity with respect to metal ions (0.5–0.9 mmol g?1, pH 6.3, NH4OAc, 20 °C) than the starting sorbents with the primary amino group (0.05–0.2 mmol g?1) and manifest high selectivity for copper(II) ion extraction

Аннотация: The grafting of thiourea on chitosan backbone allows synthesizing a thiocarbamoyl derivative that was very efficient for mercury sorption in acidic solutions. Though the sorption capacity is not increased compared to raw chitosan in near neutral solutions, this modification allowed maintaining high sorption capacity (close to 2.3 mmol Hg g-1) at pH 2. Mercury sorption in acidic solutions is not affected by the presence of competitor metals (such as Zn(II), Pb(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Ni(II)) or the presence of nitrate anions (even at concentration as high as 0.8 M)). The presence of chloride or sulfate anions (0.8 M) decreased Hg(II) sorption capacity to 1 mmol Hg g-1. Kinetics are controlled by a combination of pseudo second-order reaction rate and resistance to intraparticle diffusion. Mercury desorption reached about 75% using thiourea (in HCl solution)

Аннотация: A novel method for the synthesis of a hetaryl containing chelate amino polymer, namely, N (4(5) imidazolylmethyl)chitosan (IMC), with a degree of substitution up to 0.3 was pro posed. The "synthesis in gel" approach involves direct substitution of the hydroxyl group in 4(5) imidazolylmethanol. The structures of these polymers were confirmed by 1H NMR data. For sorption studies, IMC samples were crosslinked with epichlorohydrin and diglycidyl ethers of ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol. The degrees of swelling and sorption properties of the polymers largely depend on the crosslinking agent and the degree of crosslinking. The sorption capacities of IMC for AuIII, PtIV, and PdII ions are higher than those of the nonmodified polymer. The extraction of noble metal ions from chloride solutions becomes more selective with increasing degree of crosslinking. The sorption capacity of IMC for CoII and NiII ions is higher than those of chitosan and its known N heterocyclic derivatives

Аннотация: In order to increase the affinity of the halloysite mineral to 3d-metal ions, its surface was functionalized with N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane. A significant influence of the nature of the solvent and silane concentration on the degree of functionalization of halloysite was revealed. According to the data of elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetry, it was found that the most efficient solvents were tetrahydrofuran and acetonitrile at an equimolar silane to halloysite ratio. The functionalization of halloysite with N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropylsilyl groups significantly increases the sorption capacity of the material in comparison with both unmodified halloysite and halloysite functionalized with non-chelating 3-aminopropylsilyl groups.

Аннотация: A number of chelating resins were prepared by chemical derivatization of the chitin-glucan (CG) complex isolated from Aspergillus niger biomass, namely chitosan-glucan (CsG), O-carboxymethyl-chitin-glucan (CM-CG), O-(2-sulfoethyl)chitin-glucan (SE-CG), and N-(2-carboxyethyl)chitosan-glucan (CE-CsG). The chemical modification was confirmed by FT-IR and elemental analysis. Nanosecond electron beam irradiation was used to produce insoluble resins and to preserve the reactive functional groups. Batch experiments were carried out to evaluate the adsorption selectivity and capacity of the resins toward transition metal ions (Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+). The resins showed good adsorption capability with the following selectivity series: Co2+ Ni2+ Cu2+ Zn2+. The total metal adsorption capacities of CG, CsG, CM-CG, SE-CG, and CE-CsG resins at pH 6.5 (ammonium acetate buffer) were found to be 0.205, 0.382, 1.752, 0.319, and 0.350 mmol g?1, respectively. Our results suggest that, depending on the type of chemical modification, the chitin-glucan complexes can be used either for selective Cu2+ removal (CsG) or for total transition metal adsorption (CM-CG) from aqueous effluents

In particular, a series of bifunctional organic molecules of the 5-aryl-2H-imidazole family of various architectures bearing both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents in the aryl fragment along with the different arrangements of the hydroxy groups in the polyphenol moiety, namely derivatives of phloroglucinol, pyrogallol, hydroxyquinol, including previously unknown water-soluble molecules, were studied. The structural and antioxidant properties of these bifunctional 5-aryl-2H-imidazoles were comprehensively studied. The redox transformations of the synthesized compounds were carried out. The integrated approach based on single and mixed mechanisms of antioxidant action, namely the AOC, ARC, Folin, and DPPH assays, were applied to estimate antioxidant activities. The relationship “structure-antioxidant properties” was established for each of the antioxidant action mechanisms. The conjugation effect was shown to result in a decrease in the mobility of the hydrogen atom, thus complicating the process of electron transfer in nearly all cases. On the contrary, the conjugation in imidazolyl substituted phloroglucinols was found to enhance their activity through the hydrogen transfer mechanism. Imidazole-derived polyphenolic compounds bearing the most electron-withdrawing functionality, namely the nitro group, were established to possess the higher values for both antioxidant and antiradical capacities. It was demonstrated that in the case of phloroglucinol derivatives, the conjugation effect resulted in a significant increase in the antiradical capacity (ARC) for a whole family of the considered 2H-imidazole-derived phenolic compounds in comparison with the corresponding unsubstituted phenols. Particularly, conjugation of the polyphenolic subunit with 2,2-dimethyl-5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2H-imidazol-4-yl fragment was shown to increase ARC from 2.26 to 5.16 (104 mol-eq/L). This means that the considered family of compounds is capable of exhibiting an antioxidant activity via transferring a hydrogen atom, exceeding the activity of known natural polyphenolic compounds.

Аннотация: The effect of nanosized copper and aluminum oxides, which have a higher sorption capacity than that of bulk samples, on the Hantzsch reaction was studied. The adsorption of starting benzaldehydes and ethyl acetoacetate on the surface of copper and aluminum nanooxides resulted in the activation of these molecules and accelerated the Hantzsch reaction. In addition, considerable activation of ammonia and intermediates (chalcone and enamine) on the surface of aluminum nanooxide facilitated an increase in the rate and selectivity of the process. Аннотация: Mesoporous carbon of lamellar morphology was synthesized by the thermal decomposition of zinc glycerolate in an inert atmosphere followed by the removal of zinc oxide from the ZnO/C composite. The obtained material was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and low-temperature adsorption of nitrogen. Mesoporous carbon is remarkable for a high adsorption rate of methylene blue dye from aqueous solutions with the maximum adsorption capacity toward the dye equal to 1680 mg g−1.
