Аннотация: Measurements of active encounters between molecules in native membranes containing ingredients, including proteins, are of prime importance. To estimate rare encounters in a high range of rate constants (rate coefficients) and distances between interacting molecules in membranes, a cascade of photochemical reactions for molecules diffusing in multilamellar liposomes was investigated. The sensitised cascade triplet cis-trans photoisomerisation of the excited stilbene involves the use of a triplet sensitiser (Erythrosin B), a photochrome stilbene-derivative probe (4-dimethylamino-4 -aminostilbene) exhibiting the phenomenon of trans-cis photoisomerisation, and nitroxide radicals (5-doxyl stearic acid) to quench the excited triplet state of the sensitiser. Measurement of the phosphorescence lifetime of Erythrosin B and the fluorescence enhancement of the stilbene-derivative photochrome probe, at various concentrations of the nitroxide probe, made it possible to calculate the quenching rate constant kq= 1.1*10 15 cm2 M-1 s-1 and the rate constant of the triplet-triplet energy transfer between the sensitiser and stilbene probe kT= 1.0*1012 cm2 M-1 s-1. These values, together with the data on diffusion rate constant, obtained by methods utilising various theoretical characteristic times of about seven orders of magnitude and the experimental rate constants of about five orders of magnitude, were found to be in good agreement with the advanced theory of diffusion-controlled reactions in two dimensions. Because the characteristic time of the proposed cascade method is relatively large (0.1 s), it is possible to follow rare collisions between molecules and free radicals in model and biological membranes with a very sensitive fluorescence spectroscopy technique, using a relatively low concentration of probes.

Аннотация: A series of organosilicontitanium (OST) glycerohydrogels with the general formula 2Si(C3H7O3)4 Ti(C3H7O3)4 xC3H8O3 yH2O (where 9 x 30 and 60 y 120) were synthesized and some of their pharmacological properties were studied. High percutaneous activity of the compounds was revealed by measuring the diffusion of sodium diclofenac through intact skin membranes in vitro. It was established that all of the synthesized substances are nontoxic. The wound-healing and antioxidant properties of the glycerohydrogels were studied. The experimental results show that OST glycerohydrogels can be recommended for further testing as effective percutaneous vehicles of medicines with wound-healing, burn-healing, and antioxidant action

Аннотация: The grafting of thiourea on chitosan backbone allows synthesizing a thiocarbamoyl derivative that was very efficient for mercury sorption in acidic solutions. Though the sorption capacity is not increased compared to raw chitosan in near neutral solutions, this modification allowed maintaining high sorption capacity (close to 2.3 mmol Hg g-1) at pH 2. Mercury sorption in acidic solutions is not affected by the presence of competitor metals (such as Zn(II), Pb(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Ni(II)) or the presence of nitrate anions (even at concentration as high as 0.8 M)). The presence of chloride or sulfate anions (0.8 M) decreased Hg(II) sorption capacity to 1 mmol Hg g-1. Kinetics are controlled by a combination of pseudo second-order reaction rate and resistance to intraparticle diffusion. Mercury desorption reached about 75% using thiourea (in HCl solution)

Аннотация: Immobilizing thiourea onto chitosan allowed using the polymer for the recovery of platinum groups metals (PGMs) in acidic solutions (up to 1–2M HCl concentrations). At low HCl concentration protonated amine groups may sorb chloroanionic metal species (electrostatic attraction mechanism); however, most of sorption proceeds through chelation on sulfur containing groups (less sensitive to acidic conditions). The bi-site Langmuir equation was used for fitting sorption isotherms. The sorption of PGMs was weakly affected by the composition of the solution (presence of high concentration of anions and base metals). Maximum sorption capacities for Pd(II) and Pt(IV) ranged between 274 and 330 mg g?1 in 0.25M HCl solutions and decreased to 150–198 mg g?1 in 2M HCl solutions: Pd(II) sorption was systematically higher than Pt(IV) sorption. The pseudo-second rate equation was used for modeling the uptake kinetics. Agitation speed hardly affected uptake kinetics indicating that external diffusion resistance is not the rate controlling step. Desorption yield higher than 85% were obtained using thiourea in 0.1M HCl solution. The adsorbents could be reused for at least three cycles

Аннотация: Hybrid nanocomposite films containing silica (11.4 wt.%) or titania (18.8 wt.%) in the polymer matrix were prepared by the sol—gel method using the hydrolytic polycondensation of tetraethoxysilane and tetrabutoxysilane in a THF solution of aromatic polymer, polysulfone (PSF). The influence of the oxide nature and the film composition on the structure, the interaction of the polymer with oxides, hydrophilicity, and sorption—diffusion properties of the hybrid films were studied by FTIR spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and a complex of other physicochemical methods. The absence of chemical or intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the polymer and oxide particles in the PSF films was shown. The average size of the oxides (SiO2, 20 nm; TiO2, ~90 nm) in the films and roughness of their surface (~0.2—0.8 nm) were determined. The introduction of oxides into the polymer matrix increases the hydrophilic properties and the ability of the PSF films to swell in water; the diffusion coefficients of water and permeability of water vapor in the PSF films also increase. Titania also induces a more considerable change in the structure of the polymer matrix and more strongly affects the sorption—diffusion properties of the hybrid films in aqueous solutions of THF. All prepared nanocomposite films PSF/SiO2 and PSF/TiO2 are capable of extracting an organic component from aqueous solutions and can be used as sorbents and membrane films for the removal of organic substances from the aqueous medium
