Аннотация: Biocatalysts based on the methylotrophic yeast Ogataea polymorpha VKM Y-2559 immobilized in polymer-based nanocomposites for the treatment of methanol-containing wastewater were developed. The organosilica composites with different matrix-to-filler ratios derived from TEOS/MTES in the presence of PEG (SPEG-composite) and from silicon-polyethylene glycol (STPEG-composite) differ in the structure of the silicate phase and its distribution in the composite matrix. Methods of fluorescent and scanning microscopy first confirmed the formation of an organosilica shell around living yeast cells during sol-gel bio-STPEG-composite synthesis. Biosensors based on the yeast cells immobilized in STPEG- and SPEG-composites are characterized by effective operation: the coefficient of sensitivity is 0.85 ± 0.07 mgO2 × min−1 × mmol−1 and 0.87 ± 0.05 mgO2 × min−1 × mmol−1, and the long-term stability is 10 and 15 days, respectively. The encapsulated microbial cells are protected from UV radiation and the toxic action of heavy metal ions. Biofilters based on the developed biocatalysts are characterized by high effectiveness in the utilization of methanol-rich wastewater—their oxidative power reached 900 gO2/(m3 × cycle), and their purification degree was up to 60%.

Аннотация: The architecture of a nanoparticles' surface formed due to a modification with a ligand and protein corona formation in biofluids is critical for interactions with cells in vivo. Here we studied interactions of immune cells with magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) covalently modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and their counterparts conjugated with peptides: a pH (low) insertion peptide (pHLIP) and cycloRGD as a targeting ligand in human serum. The conjugation of MNPs-PEG with pHLIP, but not with cycloRGD, enhanced the association of these particles with mononuclear phagocytic cells in vitro and in vivo. We did not find a clear difference in protein corona composition between the pHLIP-modified and parental PEGylated nanoparticles. Analysis of the effect of autologous human serum on MNP uptake by monocytes showed that the efficiency of endocytosis varies among healthy donors and depends on intrinsic properties of serum. Nevertheless, using classic blood, coagulation, biochemical tests, and anti-PEG IgG serum level, we failed to identify the cause of the observed interdonor variation. These individual differences should be taken into consideration during testing of nanotherapeutics.

Аннотация: We have observed that a reagent combination of NaIO4 and NH2OH·HCl reacts with α,β-unsaturated ketones followed by the nucleophile ethylene glycol allowing the synthesis of 2,3-disubstituted 1,4-dioxanes using cesium carbonate as a base under Williamson ether synthesis. This reaction is useful for the synthesis of functionalized 1,4-dioxane having a carbonyl functionality. A variety of 2,3-disubstituted 1,4-dioxanes have been synthesized using these reaction conditions. A probable reaction mechanism has also been proposed.

Аннотация: Polystyrene stabilized Iridium (Ir@PS) nanoparticles (NPs) as a heterogeneous catalyst have been developed and characterized by IR, UV–Vis, SEM, TEM, EDX and XRD studies. The prepared Ir@PS catalyst showed excellent reactivity for chemo- and regio-selective controlled-hydrogenation of functionalized nitroarenes to corresponding N-arylhydroxylamine using hydrazine hydrate as reducing source and environmentally benign polyethylene glycol (PEG-400) as green solvent. The present methodology was applied for vast substrate scope and found to be compatible with wide range of reducible functional groups. The reaction performed at 85 °C or ambient temperature and completed within 5–80 minutes. The catalyst can easily be filtered out from reaction mixture and reusable.

Аннотация: Describing the crystal structure, packing, FT-IR, UV-Vis and NMR spectra and thermal properties of new polydentate O-ligand based on aryl-beta-diketone moieties connected by ethylene glycol spacer is the subject of this article. The results of IR, UV-Vis and H-1 NMR spectroscopy as well X-ray crystallography of 1,2-bis[2-(4,4,4-trifluoro-1-hydroxy-3-oxobut-1-enyl)phenoxy]-ethane (BTFPE) indicate that the compound exists in solution and in solid as enol. The crystal structure analysis shows that BTFPE has C2/c group of the monoclinic system. Typical S(6) intramolecular hydrogen bond occurs in each 1,3-diketo moiety. This bond is asymmetric and the H atom is closest to the 0 atom adjacent to the phenyl ring. The packing of the crystal is sustained by numerous C-H center dot center dot center dot O, O-H center dot center dot center dot F, C-H center dot center dot center dot F interactions. In the crystal, supramolecular zig-zag chains are formed along the c-axis. Short contacts interconnect the molecules into a two-dimensional layered structure wherein each molecule is node between chains. According to the thermal investigation this compound is stable up to 200 degrees C in air atmosphere, above this temperature it decomposes. Photoluminescent properties of aluminum(III) and europium(III) complexes of BTFPE were evaluated in chloroform solution and in the solid state. Aluminum complex of BTFPE shows blue luminescence with maximum at 445 nm. Europium complex exhibits intense red color luminescence at 613 nm from central Eu(III) ion through the excitation of the ligand.

Аннотация: The present work is to investigate of binding properties of chelating triketone-like ligands, which are able to forming of binuclear complexes. The studied compounds are able to exist in cyclic or 'close form' (phenyl substituted or unsubstituted 2-hydroxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)chroman-4-ones) as well as in their associated 'open form' (phenyl substituted or unsubstituted 1,1,1-trifluoro-4-(2-hydroxyphenyl)butan-2,4-diones). In this paper there is good evidence for the compounds are being in solid in 'close form' (pre-ligands), whereas in basic solutions and when involved in metal ion coordination sphere they are being in 'open form' (ligands). Protolytic equilibria of the compounds in aqueous ethylene glycol solutions were studied. Schemes of acid-base equilibria of these compounds were proposed. Apparent ionization constants of compounds containing electron-donor and electron-acceptor substituents in the benzene ring were determined using spectrophotometric method. The binding properties of 1,1, 1-trifluoro-4-(2-hydroxyphenyl)butan-2,4-dione towards Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) were studied. The formation of 2:2 metal-ligand complexes was observed. X-ray analysis gives evidence the formation of complexes in which the ratio metal to ligand can be 1:2 and 2:2. Similar to beta-triketones the studied ligands tends to formation of binuclear complexes with transition metal ions

Аннотация: The formation of organic/inorganic hydrogels based on silicon and titanium polyethylene glycolates, new biocompatible water-soluble precursors in sol-gel processing, was investigated. The influence of different factors on the gelation process, such as excess of PEG, water molar content, pH of medium, electrolyte additives, was investigated in comparison with silicon-and titanium-glycerol precursors. The specific features of gelation for each type of precursor were revealed. It has been determined that titanium polyethylene glycolates synthesized and used in the excess of PEG formed transparent polymeric hydrogels resistant to syneresis under certain conditions. The titanium polyethylene glycolates synthesized without excess of PEG formed turbid heterogeneous colloidal gels. In the case of silicon polyethylene glycolates the hydrogels obtained were polymeric. Dynamic light scattering was used to confirm the polymeric or colloidal type of gelation. The solid and liquid phases of polymeric silicon- and titanium-polyethylene glycol hydrogels were separated by exhaustive extraction. The solid phase was characterized by combined thermal analysis with simultaneous quadruple mass spectrometry, XRD, IR spectroscopy, and liquid phase-atomic emission spectroscopy. The structural features of polymeric gels were investigated by SEM and TEM methods. The cross-linking density of polymeric hydrogels was evaluated using Flory-Rehner theory based on the mechanical properties of swollen networks of flexible polymeric chains

Аннотация: Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), also known by the trade name Sovol, are toxic industrial wastes. They have been subjected to chemical treatment by polyethylene glycols (PEGs) and potassium hydroxide. As a result of the interaction of the Sovol with various molecular mass PEGs (MMPEG-4 ∼ 200, MMPEG-22 ∼ 1000), water-soluble mixtures M1 and M2 containing mono(polyethylene glycol)oxy-derivatives (PCB-PEG-4 and PCB-PEG-22), polychlorobiphenylols, and unreacted PCB congeners (PCB 44, PCB 47, PCB 49, PCB 52, and PCB 66) were obtained. It was shown for the first time that mixtures M1 and M2 are susceptible to bacterial degradation without their fractionation. According to the gas-liquid chromatography with flame-ionization and mass-spectrometric detection, the Rhodococcus wratislaviensis KT112-7 strain degraded all of the chemical compounds occurring in the mixtures. In a 5-day experiment, it was found that the KT112-7 strain decomposes mono(polyethylene glycol)oxy-derivatives completely (by 100%) and polychlorobiphenylols and PCB congeners by 90–95% in the M1 and M2 mixtures. The culture medium did not contain transformation products, whereas free chlorine ions were accumulated (72–94% of the maximum possible amount). Thus, the use of the chemical modification and consecutive bacterial degradation provided an effective destruction of technical PCB mixtures with a high content of highly chlorinated congeners
