Аннотация: The method of molecular dynamics has been used to calculate the pressure, internal energy and isochoric heat capacity of the Lennard–Jones fluid for 208 states in the range of temperatures 0.35 kBT 2.0 and densities 0.001 1.2. The array of data obtained, along with stable states, includes homogeneous metastable states (supersaturated vapor, superheated and supercooled liquid). Spinodals of supersaturated vapor and superheated liquid have been approximated. In a stable region the data obtained are compared with the results of previous papers. The behavior of thermodynamic properties of the fluid in the event of homogeneity disturbance and formation of micro-heterogeneous (“two-phase”) states has been considered.

Аннотация: The article presents the results of molecular-dynamics calculations of the isochoric heat capacity, cv, and the (p, ?, T) – properties of the Lennard-Jones fluid in the region of liquid–gas phase transition in stable and metastable states. The system under investigation contains 2048 particles, the cut-off radius of the potential is chosen equal to 6.78?. The results of computations of the (p, ?, T) – properties have been used to approximate the location of the spinodal. Values of cv have been determined along the gas and the liquid branches of the spinodal. A thermodynamic relation that determines the value of cv on the spinodal in terms of derivatives with respect to temperature of the entropy, pressure and specific volume along the spinodal has been obtained. It is shown that molecular-dynamics data are in agreement with the results of the thermodynamic analysis.????

Аннотация: The results of an experimental investigation of cryogenic liquids in a metastable (superheated) state are considered. Data are presented on the maximum attainable superheat temperature of typical cryogenic liquids from atmospheric to close to critical pressures. The nucleation mechanism and the influence of factors that induce boiling on the attainable superheat of liquids are discussed. The results of experiments are compared with theory. Data on the thermodynamic properties (P, rho, T properties, heat capacity, ultrasonic velocity and attenuation, volume viscosity) of cryogenic liquids in a metastable liquids is discussed. Explosive boiling phenomena connected with large superheats of cryogenic liquids are considered, and the discharge of cryogenic liquids through short tubes and the heat interaction of cold liquid droplets with a hot surface are investigated

Аннотация: The paper is devoted to the development of miniature loop heat pipes (mLHPs) with a nominal capacity of 25-30 W and a heat-transfer distance up to 250 mm intended for cooling electronics components and CPU of mobile PC. It gives the results of investigating several prototypes of mLHPs incorporated into remote heat exchanger (RHE) systems in different conditions. It has been established that in the nominal range of heat loads orientation does not practically affect the mLHPs operating characteristics. Under air cooling the total thermal resistance of such a system is 1.7-4.0degreesC/W and depends strongly on the cooling conditions and the radiator efficiency. In this case the mLHP's own thermal resistance is in the limits from 0.3 to 1.2degreesC/W, and the maximum capacity reaches 80-120 BT. The obtained results make it possible to regard mLHPs as quite promising devices for RHE systems providing thermal regimes for electronics components and personal computers. Аннотация: Loop heat pipes (LHPs) posses a great variety of valuable properties, which make them quite promising for application both on the Earth and in space. Among these are the LHP high heat-transport capacity at an any orientation in the field of mass forces, good mass-and-size parameters and the possibility of an arbitrary configuration of transport lines. At the same time such a drawback of LHPs of the conventional type as the instability of start up and operation in the region of low heat loads reduces their performance. The problem is connected, in a general case, with the unfavourable distribution of the vapor and the liquid phases of the working fluid in the evaporator. There is reason to believe that the LHP operation can also be significantly affected by zero-g conditions, in which the distribution of a working fluid is pre-determined only by the action of surface forces and the thermocapillary phenomena. The paper performs a general analysis of the necessary conditions imposed on the construction of LHP and some designs that contribute to the retention of serviceability in zero-g conditions at low heat loads. It gives the results of laboratory investigations of an adapted ammonia LHP with a heat-transfer capacity up to 2 kWxm

Local equations of state for the gas, liquid, and crystalline phases are derived. The spinodals of a superheated (extended) liquid, supersaturated vapor, and superheated (extended) crystal are determined. It is shown that the spinodal of a supercooled liquid is nonexistent. An algorithm to calculate the lines of phase equilibria is constructed. The lines of liquid-gas, liquid-crystal, crystal-gas phase equilibria, and their metastable extensions are determined. It is shown that the metastable extensions of the melting and sublimation lines terminate at the spinodals of the liquid and crystal, respectively. The properties of final critical points in the lines of melting and sublimation are considered

Аннотация: A compact copper–water loop heat pipe (LHP) with an effective length of 310 mm equipped with a flat–oval evaporator measuring 80 (L) × 42 (W) × 7 (H) has been tested. The vapor line and the condenser had the same internal diameter of 5.4 mm. The internal diameter of the liquid line was 3.4 mm. Tests were conducted with a heat source which had a heating surface of 30 mm × 30 mm. The condenser was cooled by running water with a temperature of 20 °C. In the horizontal position the device has exhibited serviceability in the heat load range from 5 W to 1200 W at vapor temperatures from 26.5 °C to 103.4 °C. The maximum capacity was achieved at a heat source temperature of 143.5 °C, when the LHP thermal resistance was equal to 0.044 °C/W. The corresponding values of thermal resistance for the evaporator and the condenser were at a level of 0.006 °C/W and 0.038 °C/W. A minimum thermal resistance of 0.097 °C/W for the “heat source–LHP–cooling water” system was obtained at a heat load of about 700 W, at which the temperature of the heat source was 87 °C

Аннотация: The paper is devoted to the development of active coolers for central processing units (CPU) of desktop computers on the basis of copper–water loop heat pipes (LHP). It presents descriptions of designs and test results for two cooler models containing flat evaporators and condensers of the collector type equipped with a heat sink (radiator). Heat was removed from the radiators by forced convection. It is shown that the maximum heat-transfer capacity of the coolers was 500–600 W. Minimum values of the total thermal resistance of the coolers were equal to 0.15–0.17 °С/W at heat loads of 500 and 250 W, respectively. On the basis of an analysis of distribution of local thermal resistances it has been concluded that additional decrease in the thermal resistance required for cooling a CPU with a generated thermal capacity in excess of 150 W can be achieved at the cost of optimization of radiator design and (or) an increase in the intensity of its cooling

Аннотация: Experiments on water cavitation in ultrasonic field have been carried out. Low frequency fluctuations of the intensity of laser beam run through the cavitation area have been studied. Experiments have proved presence of low-frequency random fluctuations with frequency dependence of power spectra S ~ 1/ f , α where the exponent α ranged within 0.8 ≤ α ≤ 1.2. From experimental realizations, large-scale low frequency pulsations characterized by scale invariance, which duration is distributed according to the power law, have been distinguished. The results are explained on the basis of mathematical model for the rise of scale invariant fluctuations with 1/ f α power spectrum in the system of two nonlinear stochastic differential equations describing interaction of heterogeneous phase transitions. Distribution of extreme low frequency emissions obtained from numerical solutions to stochastic equations takes the power series form. Correlations of dynamic scaling between critical indicators determining frequency dependence of pulsations power spectra α and distribution functions of extreme low frequency pulsation amplitudes β have been determined. It is shown that both in the experiments on acoustic cavitation of water and in the theoretical model of interacting phase transitions critical indicators are bound with the correlation α + β = 2. Spectra of fluctuation power are determined in the experiments simpler and more accurately than the function of extreme amplitudes distribution. In case when only one frequency dependence of fluctuation capacity spectra is known correlations between indicators serve to obtain information on the distribution of large scale emissions and to estimate critical amplitudes.

Аннотация: A new approach to fluids behavior study in the course of highpower heating has been developed by us. The approach combines experimental method of controlled pulse heating of a wire probe and numerical method of thermophysical properties temperature dependencies recovery from the experimental data. Short (millisecond) characteristic time scale allows working with short-lived fluids, including superheated (with respect to the liquid-vapor equilibrium temperature and/or to the temperature of thermal decomposition onset) ones. Numerical method gives a set of inverse heat conduction problem solutions, based on the results of single pulse experiment. Numerical technique, based on the heat transfer parameters optimization model, is built using genetic algorithms. The approach was applied to saturated hydrocarbons in the temperature range 300-625 K

Аннотация: Repeat thermal tests of two high-capacity LHPs (loop heat pipes) have been conducted after their long-term storage under normal conditions. The first of them 1820 mm long with a capacity of 1200 W and water as a working fluid was made and first tested in 1985. The other device with a length of 2750 mm and a capacity of 800 W, which consisted of two ammonia LHPs joined in series, was made and tested for the first time in 1988. Both the devices were made of stainless steel and equipped with a titanium and nickel capillary structures. The tests, which were conducted in conditions similar to the initial ones, have shown that a long-term storage has not had any considerable impact on the LHP thermal characteristics. Such devices may be used in systems of utilization of low-potential heat and solar energy, and also for heating and cooling various objects

Аннотация: The paper presents operating characteristics of a copper–water loop heat pipe (LHP) developed for the use in cooling systems of servers for heat transfer from heat-tensioned elements of electronics to peripheral sections or an outer circulation cooling loop beyond the server. The LHP effective length was 400 mm. The device was provided with a flat-oval evaporator. Its thickness, width and length were equal to 7 mm, 42 mm and 80 mm, respectively. The evaporator was equipped with a thermal interface whose heating zone measured 30 mm × 30 mm. The aim of the research work was to determine the effect of external factors such as the device orientation, the condenser cooling temperature and the condition of heat exchange with the surroundings, on the LHP operating performances. The tests were conducted at the unfavorable LHP slopes from 0° to +60° and heat-sink temperatures from 20 °C to 80 °C, and also in different conditions of heat exchange with the outside ambient. The investigation results are presented in the range of heat loads from 20 to 600 W. It has been shown that the slope dependence of the LHP heat-transfer capacity decreases with increasing heat-sink temperature and practically disappears at a value of the latter of 80 °C. In this case the LHP thermal resistance decreases too and reaches a minimum value of 0.02 °C/W in the range of heat loads from 400 to 600 W.

Аннотация: The method of molecular dynamics has been used to calculate the pressure, internal energy and isochoric heat capacity of the Lennard–Jones fluid for 208 states in the range of temperatures 0.35 kBT 2.0 and densities 0.001 1.2. The array of data obtained, along with stable states, includes homogeneous metastable states (supersaturated vapor, superheated and supercooled liquid). Spinodals of supersaturated vapor and superheated liquid have been approximated. In a stable region the data obtained are compared with the results of previous papers. The behavior of thermodynamic properties of the fluid in the event of homogeneity disturbance and formation of micro-heterogeneous (“two-phase”) states has been considered.
