Аннотация: The nucleation kinetics of the hcp phase in the supercooled bcc phase of solid 4He and a 3He-4He solution containing 1% 3He is studied experimentally. Precision measurements of the pressure in the crystal are made as it is cooled along an isochore near the bcc-hcp phase equilibrium curve. The lifetime of the metastable bcc phase in 4He is found to have a complicated dependence on the level of supercooling which can be described in terms of two nucleation mechanisms-homogeneous and heterogeneous. The homogeneous mechanism occurs for the highly supercooled bcc phase in carefully annealed crystals, while the heterogeneous mechanism, for which the activation coefficients are several orders of magnitude lower than for the homogeneous mechanism, occurs with low supercooling. The influence of defects and impurities on the nucleation process is also studied. In unannealed (defective) 4He crystals the nucleation rate is found to have an enormous scatter, which is indicative of poor reproducibility from one crystal to another. For annealed samples of 3He-4He solution the nucleation kinetics data can be described only by the heterogeneous nucleation mechanism.

The effect of defects and impurities on the nucleation process is investigated. Revealed that in the unannealed (defective) 4He crystal nucleation rate shows huge variation in the values, indicating poor reproducibility from crystal to crystal. It's found that for the annealed samples 3He-4He data obtained on the nucleation kinetics can be described only by heterogeneous nucleation mechanism

Аннотация: A molecular dynamics method was used to calculate the pressure p* and the internal energy e* of a liquid and a crystal in stable and metastable states in a system of 2048 particles, which interaction is described by a modified Lennard-Jones potential. For the liquid phase, calculations were performed along 13 isotherms from the range of reduced temperature T* = 0.35-3.0, and for the crystal phase, along 16 isotherms from the range T* =0.1-3.0. The thermal p* = p*(ρ*,T*) and caloric e* = e*(ρ*,T*) equations of state for liquids and crystals have been constructed. The parameters of crystal-liquid phase equilibrium have been determined from the conditions of phases coexistence at positive pressures and in the region of negative pressures, where the coexistent phases are metastable. The spinodal of a stretched liquid has been approximated. It has been found that with a temperature decrease the metastable extension of the melting line meets the spinodal of the liquid phase. The point of their meeting, the endpoint of the melting curve, is the point of termination of crystal-liquid phase equilibrium without the onset of identity of the phases

Calculations have been performed in the range of reduced temperatures 0.4 ⩽ kBT/ɛ ⩽ 2.0 and densities 0.01 ≤ ρσ3 ≤ 1.2. Values of ηs* have been obtained for 217 states, 99 of which refer to metastable liquid and gas regions. The results of calculating ηs* for thermodynamically stable states are in satisfactory agreement with the data of earlier investigations. An equation has been obtained which describes the temperature and density dependence of the coefficient of shear viscosity in stable and metastable regions of the phase diagram up to the boundaries of spontaneous nucleation. The behavior of the coefficient of shear viscosity close to the spinodal of a superheated liquid and supersaturated vapor is discussed and the applicability of the Stokes-Einstein relation at high supercoolings of the liquid phase is examined.
