Аннотация: The thermodynamic properties of crystal, liquid, and gas in the stable and metastable states have been determined by molecular dynamics simulation of a system of 2048 Lennard-Jones particles. The spinodals of a superheated crystal, a superheated liquid, and a supersaturated vapor have been approximated; the spinodal for a supercooled liquid turns out to be nonexistent. The liquid-vapor, liquid-crystal, and crystal-vapor equilibrium curves and their extensions beyond the triple point have been calculated. It has been shown that, as distinct from the metastable extension of the saturation curve, which terminates at the zero isotherm, the metastable melting and sublimation curves terminate at, respectively, the stretched liquid and superheated crystal spinodals. The properties of the critical end points of metastable equilibrium of extended phases are considered

Аннотация: Investigation of heat-exchange processes in the evaporator of a loop heat pipe is important for the development of heat transfer devices with low thermal resistances. A two-dimensional mathematical model of the evaporator active zone is presented. Three modes of vapor generation in the wick have been examined, where each differs in the mechanism of the vapor phase formation and in the saturation of the capillary structure: 1) evaporation to the vapor grooves, 2) volumetric evaporation in the two-phase zone, and 3) volumetric evaporation in the two-phase zone separated from the heated wall of the evaporator by dried zones. Conditions identifying changes between modes have been formulated. Structural characteristics of the wick with different pore sizes have been taken into account. Using a numericalanalytical method, results were obtained for three copper loop heat pipes with biporous wicks, where the working fluid was water for one of the loop heat pipes and methanol for the other two. The heat-load dependent temperature drop between the evaporator wall and the vapor in the vapor grooves has been presented. Additionally, a comparative analysis of calculated and experimental results was performed

Аннотация: Exact partial solutions are found for the electric field distribution in the outer region of a stationary unipolar corona discharge from an ideal conical needle in the space-charge-limited current mode with allowance for the electric field dependence of the ion mobility. It is assumed that only the very tip of the cone is responsible for the discharge, i. e., that the ionization zone is a point. The solutions are obtained by joining the spherically symmetric potential distribution in the drift space and the self-similar potential distribution in the space-charge-free region. Such solutions are outside the framework of the conventional Deutsch approximation, according to which the space charge insignificantly influences the shape of equipotential surfaces and electric lines of force. The dependence is derived of the corona discharge saturation current on the apex angle of the conical electrode and applied potential difference. A simple analytical model is suggested that describes drift in the point-plane electrode geometry under saturation as a superposition of two exact solutions for the field potential. In terms of this model, the angular distribution of the current density over the massive plane electrode is derived, which agrees well with Warburg's empirical law

Аннотация: An experimental approach to determination of the density of liquid superheated with respect to the liquid-vapor equilibrium temperature, including the range of high degrees of superheating, is developed. The approach is based on application of an optical fiber method combined with a pure bubble chamber. Performance of the method for investigation of the refractive index and density for superheated liquids as functions of temperature and pressure is illustrated in experiments with n-hexane as a reference substance for thermophysical measurements. The relative density measurements are performed with a resolution up to 10-4 at a characteristic time of 1 ms. For absolute measurements, the setup should be calibrated by the known data on the liquid density for the saturation line
