Аннотация: Amperometric hydrogen sensors based on proton-conducting solid electrolytes of La0.95Sr0.05YO3, CaTi0.95Sc0.05O3 and CaZr0,9Sc0.1O3 compositions are prepared and investigated in the present work. The influence of the sensor design on its own characteristics is also examined. It is shown that a solid electrolyte used in the form of discs with cavities significantly simplifies the design of this type of sensors. A sensor based on La0.95Sr0.05YO3 electrolyte with fully sealed junction between discs is suitable for the analysis of mixtures with high H2 content. It is found that by increasing H2 content from 10 to 98% the limiting current increases from 0.25 to 2.25 mA (at 750 mV). It is also found that the sensor based on La0.95Sr0.05YO3 with discs sealed in two points as well as the sensor based on CaZr0,9Sc0.1O3 with fully sealed junction are suitable for the analysis of mixtures with low H2 content (0.5-2%). For the above cases, the limiting current at 2% H2 reaches 3.5 and 0.5 mA (at 750 mV), respectively. CaTi0.95Sc0.05O3 is not suitable to be used as a hydrogen sensor. In all the examined systems, steam content does not affect sensors’ behavior and high operating temperatures (850 °C) increase the range of sensors’ hydrogen measuring concentration capacity.

Аннотация: The present paper is devoted to Ni-cermet degradation phenomena and places emphasis on experimental approaches and data handling. The resistivity of Ni-YSZ cermet (nickel and 8 mol.% yttria stabilized zirconia) anode substrates was monitored during 3000 h at 700 and 800 °C in a gas mixture of 80 vol.% water vapor and 20 vol.% hydrogen. The experimentally evaluated dependence of resistivity of the Ni-YSZ substrates can be well described by exponential decay functions. Post test analysis by image processing and XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis for characterization of the microstructure and elemental composition were carried out for virgin samples and after 300, 1000 and 3000 h of exposure time. The 3D-microstructure was reconstructed using an original spheres packing algorithm. Two processes leading to the Ni-YSZ degradation were observed: Ni-phase particle coarsening and volatilization. The effect of these processes on resistivity and such microstructure parameters as porosity, Ni-phase fraction, Ni and YSZ phases particle size distributions, triple phase boundary length, and tortuosity factor are considered in this paper.

Аннотация: Analysis of the equivalent scheme of the mixed proton-oxygen ion-electron conductor (MPOEC) allowed to obtain relationships between parameters of the membrane (total conductivity and transfer numbers) and parameters of the charge and mass transfer through the membrane (partial ion and electron currents, the specific flux of hydrogen at the cathode membrane surface) under regime of electrochemical reforming. It was stated that presence of proton conductivity in addition to oxygen ion conductivity led to increase of total flux of produced hydrogen. However, under conditions typical for the electrochemical reforming of methane into hydrogen, the specific hydrogen flux is about four times lower in the case when the membrane has proton-electron conductivity than in the case when the membrane has oxygen ion-electron conductivity.

Аннотация: In the present investigation, a radically new and simple method of evaluation of the proton conductivity is proposed. This method is based on the conductivity measurement of ceramic materials depending on the oxygen partial pressure (pO2) at a gradual transition from the atmosphere of pure oxygen to one of wet hydrogen: O2 → O2 (H2O) → H2O (O2) → H2O → H2O (H2) → H2 (H2O). Experimental data of total conductivities for the solid electrolyte BaCe0.9Gd0.1O3–δ (BCG) have been fitted with modeling ones in accordance with the defect chemistry model at 600, 750 and 900 °C. Experimental and theoretical relationships correlate well with each other, demonstrating the success of the proposed model description. Analysis of dependences of the total conductivity as a function of pO2 with simultaneous change of pO2 and water partial pressure (pH2O) allows the estimation of the contribution of the partial conductivities (protonic, oxygen ionic, electronic) in the total one and the identification of the areas of purely ionic and purely protonic conductivity. Using the obtained data, some transport phenomena of proton-conducting materials, which were not previously interpreted, are discussed.

To this purpose novel polycrystalline ceramic materials based on Cu and Gd co-doped BaCeO3 proton conductors exhibiting high proton conductivity have been prepared and characterized. The influence of copper oxide as a dopant on the microstructure and the electrical properties of BaCe0.9–xGd0.1CuxO3–δ (0≤x≤0.1) have been examined in detail. It is shown that the dependence of the electrical conductivity is correlated with the average oxide grain diameter variation in air at various temperatures. Moreover, it was found that the algorithmic segmentation evaluation results are in good agreement with the experimental ones, verifying the considerable contribution of the grain-boundary conductivity to the electrical transport of Cu and Gd co-doped BaCeO3 proton conductors.

Аннотация: An analysis of the operation of an amperometric sensor with a diffusion channel at unsteady pressure of the analysed gas was carried out. Relations between sensor parameters, pressure jamp and sensor current were established. It was shown that the main reason for the distortion of a sensor reading is a large convective gas flow into the sensor chamber through the channel due to a gas pressure jamp. On the basis of the analysis, it is demonstrated how to change the sensor parameters to eliminate the error in the sensor reading. This may be achieved by decreasing the sensor chamber volume or changing the diffusion channel parameters. Two types of diffusion channels are considered: a channel filled by a porous medium and a narrow plate channel. The relations obtained provide the basis for choosing the corresponding sensor parameters in order to attain a given accuracy of the oxygen concentration measurement for maximum expected pressure changes

Аннотация: Проведено исследование катодных продуктов электролиза расплава Na2WO4-Na2GeO3-WO3 при 850-900 С в атмосфере воздуха на подложках из никеля, молибдена, вольфрама и графита. Рентгеновский анализ катодных осадков позволил разграничить концентрационные области электрохимического выделения вольфрама и германия. Обнаружена слабая растворимость германийсодержащих солей в вольфраматных расплавах
The cathodic products of electrodeposition of the molten mixture Na2WO4-Na2GeO3-WO3 on nickel, molybdenum, tungsten, and graphite substrates are investigated at 850-900 C in air. X-ray analysis of the cathodic precipitates enabled us to demarcate the concentration range of the electrochemical deposition of tungsten and germanium. A low solubility is found for the germanide-containing salts in molten tungstates

Аннотация: The eligibility of natural gas (methane), methanol, ethanol, and gasoline as fuels for the generation of electrical power in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) is discussed in terms of efficiency. Each raw fuel was assumed to be processed in a steam reformer to provide a hydrogen-rich gas mixture to the SOFC feedstream. An SOFC system, consisting of an electrochemical section and a reformer, was analyzed thermodynamically assuming initial steam/fuel feed ratios at conditions where carbon deposition is thermodynamically impossible, at atmospheric total pressure, and in the temperature range of 800-1,200 K. Results were obtained in terms of both electromotive force (emf) output and efficiency. Methane seems to be the most appropriate fuel option, with an SOFC system efficiency close to 96%. Furthermore, ethanol and methanol were very promising alternative options (94% and 91%, respectively), while gasoline (83%) utilization requires special reforming conditions.
