Аннотация: Thin cadmium sulfide films were prepared on a monocrystalline crystal silicon substrate by chemical deposition from aqueous solutions. Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction revealed that the cadmium sulfide films are comprised of nanocrystal particles, with 80% of the particles having a size of 5±1 nm. Some nanocrystals have a wurtzite structure, while others, a sphalerite one. The presence of cubic phase in the films is indicative of a nonequilibrium state of the nanocrystalline films. Thirty minutes after the onset of the formation of cadmium sulfide, the size and crystal structure of the constituent particles of the film become independent of the deposition time—only the film thickness increases. In addition, the initial stage of the formation of the cadmium sulfide film is accompanied by the deposition of cadmium hydroxide Cd(OH)2

Аннотация: A self-organization of chemical bath deposited cadmium sulfide colloidal particles into well shaped hexagonal prisms of nearly the same size in a micrometer range is found. The selforganization phenomenon itself and the size of resulting prisms depend on the chemical affinity of the deposition reaction. In spite of the nearly perfect shape, the inner structure of the CdS colloidal crystals is highly disordered and has at least two hierarchy levels. On the scale of scanning electron microscopy, the loose and disordered microstructure of the colloidal crystals consists of nonuniformly shaped coagulates, with sizes between 150 and 250 nm. Transmission electron microscopy shows that the coagulates are polycrystals with large angle boundaries between nonuniformly shaped grains with an average size of 7 ± 2 nm

Аннотация: Powders and solid films of lead sulfides (PbS) were produced by chemical bath deposition from thiourea aqueous solutions at a temperature of 325 K. By a Rietveld-like analysis of the X-ray spectra, it was shown that nanocrystalline PbS has the same rock salt structure B1 (space group Fm-3m) as coarse grained or single crystalline PbS. Nevertheless, this B1 structure is a very distorted structure with root mean square displacements up to 0.011nm and with a microstrain up to 0.3%. The particle sizes in the PbS powders and films measured by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are found to be in agreement with those determined by Bragg–Brentano X-ray diffraction (XRD) on powders and by glancing incident diffraction (GID) on films. It was found that by changing the chemical affinity in the range from 31.4 to 38.7 kJ/mol, it is possible to regulate the particle size of the chemically deposited sulfide powders from 100 to 300 nm.

Аннотация: Analysis of conditions of the lead hydroxide and sulfide formation in the Pb2+–H2O system was carried out with accounting for the formation of polynuclear hydroxo-complexes. This allows predicting a possibility of the lead hydroxide formation in the solution before the beginning of the synthesis of lead sulfide. The domains of the stable formation of Pb(OH)2 and PbS were calculated for the systems containing lead citrate complexes and hydroxo-complexes. The proposed calculation method can be used for the quantitative determination of the reaction mixture composition and development of the chemical deposition technology of lead chalcogenides in different morphological forms: nanocrystalline powders (hydrophobic sol), quantum dots, heterostructures of the core@shell type or films. The proposed calculation method is applicable to other chalcogenide systems containing metal ions forming mononuclear and polynuclear hydroxo-complexes

Аннотация: The region of stable coexistence of Cd(OH)2 and CdS as a function of pH and the concentration of the complex-forming agent (ammonia) was determined by thermodynamic analysis with the purpose of the preparation of Cd(OH)2 cadmium hydroxide particles surrounded by cadmium sulfide CdS shells. In this region, powders were obtained by chemical precipitation during various precipitation times from aqueous solutions. X-ray diffraction was used to track the growth of the CdS nanophase of a disordered structure and hexagonal Cd(OH)2 phase consumption with time. It was found by complexonometry that part of cadmium formed insoluble structures as a result of the formation of continuous nanosized CdS shells on single crystalline Cd(OH)2 particles. A comparative analysis of the experimental data was used to determine the kinetics of formation of nucleus–shell Cd(OH)2/CdS particles in the system

Particles more than 14 nm in size have wurtzite structure, which is typical of bulk cadmium sulfide. The size of the disordered-phase particles was determined from the Scherrer–Debye formula. The size of wurtzite-phase particles was determined by the Williamson– Hall method

Аннотация: Thermally stable nanocrystalline films of lead sulfide PbS were prepared using the chemical deposition method. The thickness of the films measured by interferometry was approximately equal to 100 nm, and the average particle size determined from the broadening of the X-ray diffraction reflections was approximately 80 nm. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that annealing of the film at a temperature of 350 °C in air results in the formation of a protective oxide sulfate phase of the composition PbO · PbSO4 on the surface of the film. It was established that the oxide sulfate phase prevents a further oxidation of the film and serves as an inhibitor of the growth of PbS nanoparticles upon heating up to a temperature of 500° C. The factors responsible for the high thermal stability of the sizes of nanoparticles and the optical properties of the PbS nanocrystalline film were discussed

Аннотация: A method has been developed to identify the sublattices of a crystal structure in which there are atomic vacancies. This method is based on determining the chemical environment of vacancies and is implemented using the method of the positron annihilation by measuring the momentum distribution of core electrons. To determine the characteristic momentum distribution of electrons, a special two-detector spectroscopy is used, which ensures measurements of Doppler broadening of the annihilation gamma ray line with a high (up to 106) signal-to-noise ratio. To test the method, vacancies in irradiated silicon carbide (6H SiC), sintered nonstoichiometric titanium carbides (TiCy) and titanium monoxides (TiOy), and chemically deposited lead and cadmium sulfides (PbS and CdS) have been identified. Vacancies in the carbon and silicon sublattices have been identified in silicon carbide after irradiation by low- and high-energy electrons, respectively. Vacancies in the nonmetal sublattice have been identified in TiCy. Vacancies in the metal sublattice have been identifiedin TiCy, as well as in PbS and CdS

Аннотация: By the method of chemical condensation a stable aqueous colloidal solution of nanoparticles of cadmium sulfide was obtained. The solution obtained in the daylight had a bright lemon-yellow color. For the temporary stabilization of the solution was used an organic complexone, disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA), that prevented coagulation of colloidal particles up to several months at 4°C. At room temperature, the solution remained stable during a month. The structure and properties of the disperse phase were studied by the X-ray diffraction, optical fluorescence, and electron microscopy. The solid particles size is about 3 nm, they have a disordered close-packed structure with the space group P6mm and possess the photoluminescence color from green to orange depending on the duration of keeping the solution. The size of coagulates was 10 nm, 100 nm, and 1 μm after keeping for 1, 2, and 4 months, respectively

Аннотация: The crystal structure of lead sulfide (PbS) films produced by chemical deposition onto a glass substrate is studied by X ray diffraction analysis. The thickness of the synthesized films is ~120 nm, the dimensions of the regions of coherent scattering are 70–80 nm, and the magnitude of microstrains is ~0.20%. It is established that the crystal structure of the synthesized PbS films and of the same films annealed at the temperature 293–423 K is cubic (space group Fm m) and corresponds to the D03 type that differs from the B1 type typical of coarse-grained PbS. In the cubic structure of the PbS nanofilms, there is a latent nonstoichiometric distribution of S atoms and vacancies among octahedral sites 4(b) and tetrahedral positions 8(c). The optical transmittance of the nanocrystalline PbS films is measured in the wavelength range from 200 to 3270 nm. The most pronounced variations in the transmittance is observed in the wavelength range from 700–800 to 1600–2000 nm (corresponding to the photon energy range from ~1.8 to ~0.7 eV). It is established that the band gap Eg is 0.83–0.85 eV, i.e., it is larger than the band gap of single crystal PbS, 0.41 eV
