В статье анализируется образ Петра I как христианского правителя в работах Феофана Прокоповича, П. П. Шафирова и законодательных актах первой четверти XVIII в. Раскрытие смысла и контекста применения данного образа ценно для понимания петровской идеологии. Авторы петровской эпохи конструируют два образа - христианина и европейского монарха, называя каждый из них «христианским правителем». К «правителю-христианину» можно отнести ряд сюжетов: предательство Мазепы, через которое Петр создает себе образ, подобный Христу; защита веры и христиан; стремление Петра к христианскому просвещению. Смысл образа зависит от цели создания текста и события, на которое обратил внимание автор. Элементы сакрализации прослеживаются в большинстве текстов, исключением можно считать «Гисторию Свейской войны» из-за стремления и авторского коллектива к абсолютной объективности в изложении событий войны. Создание определенного образа могло носить и практический характер, т. к. благодаря этому Петр имел большее влияние на своих подданных. The paper analyses image of Peter the Great as a Christian monarch in the works of Feofan Prokopovich, P. P. Shafirov, and legislative acts of the first quarter of the 18th century.The disclosure of meaning and context of this image applysis is valuable for understanding to the Peter the Great’s ideology. Authors of the Peter the Great’s era create two images - a Christian and a European monarch was called by each of them the «Christian ruler». A number of subjects can be attributed to the «Christian ruler»: the betrayal of Mazepa, though which Peter the Great creates an image similar to Christ; the protection of Christianity and Christians; Peter the Great’s aspiration for Christian enlightenment. The meaning of the image depends on the purpose of creating the text and the event, to which the author drew attention. Element of sacralization are visible in most texts. As an exception, the «History of the Swedish War» can be considered due to the authors’ and the team aspiration for absolute objectivity in the presentation of the events of the war. Creation of a certain image could be practical, because thanks to this, Peter the Great had a greater influence on his people.
